Promote Your Event
The following are a list of tips and supports to help you make the most of your love:livemusic event.
Tips for Marketing Your Event
Press
If you have details of your event confirmed five weeks in advance contact your local newspaper. Provide them with as much information as possible including:
- a press release
- high resolution images of your performers
- biographies of performers
- information about the organisers
- contact details for event organisers, including name, email and telephone
Check the deadlines for your local newspapers before sending the information for their entertainment/arts pages. Register for free with Media Live to get contact details for your local newspaper.
Send the details of your event to printed event listings in newspapers and magazines
Radio
Invite the local radio station to record your event for broadcast, either live or later that day. Indoor events with specific start and finish times are more suitable to be recorded for broadcast. Again you can register for free with Media Live to get the contact details for your local radio station.
If you have a good quality CD of the performers send it to your local radio station. Research the programmes on your local station and send it to the presenter of the appropriate radio show (e.g. a traditional music programme if your event is a traditional music event)
If you are sending information to radio listings make sure and send it to the correct listings/events editor in the radio station
Online
Register your event on the love:live music website so that your event features in the searchable listings
Online listing pages are a free and effective way of marketing your event. Research Irish listings websites and upload details of your event. If you are sending information to listings by email make sure to send it to the correct listings/events editor in the organisation. Helpful listings websites are entertainment.ie and the Culture Fox website for Arts Council clients.
Use your own website to promote the event and put a link on your site back to the love:live music website
Research music bloggers and send them information about your event. Remember that you're writing to an individual and avoid sending generic emails to bloggers and/or journalists. Research what specific area of music they cover and if you event falls within this area send them a personal email with details.
