WHAT IS LOVE:LIVE MUSIC?
love:live music is a nationwide celebration of music, placing performance and participation at the heart of the community for one day. The event is created through public participation ‘made by the people, for the people’ and aims to bring live music into the lives of everyone in Ireland on 21st June.
WHAT CHARACTERISES LOVE:LIVE MUSIC?
It is an exceptional and spontaneous day that promotes free participation. Anyone in Ireland can create and register an event; all events must be free to the public and take place on 21st June. The event is characterised by unexpected musical encounters and the creation of live music in non traditional spaces; particularly outdoor music experiences. Indoor venues with no entry charge are also encouraged to take part.
WHAT TYPE OF MUSIC DOES LOVE:LIVE MUSIC PROMOTE?
This national platform is an opportunity to shine a spotlight on new trends, ‘new Irish music’, from traditional to the avant-garde. All musicians and singers of all genres, both amateur and professional, can take part. It is an opportunity to participate in the world’s largest free celebration of music, with no auditions and no critics.
INTERNATIONAL MUSIC DAY ~ FÊTE DE LA MUSIQUE
love:live music is an associate partner of the International Music Day Fête de la Musique, the largest live music event in the world. Held annually on Summer Solstice, in 120 countries / 450 cities across the globe, these highly visible national events animate public space with music performance and participation in celebration of each country’s musical diversity. www.fetedelamusique.culture.fr

WHAT TYPES OF EVENTS CAN BE INCLUDED?
Live music performances of all types (concert, gig, session, jam etc), participatory and interactive events such as workshops, public gatherings (percussion and choral events), flashmobs, busking, schools events and music in the workplace.
WHERE DOES LOVE:LIVE MUSIC TAKE PLACE?
love:live music events are held in as many places as possible through-out Ireland. It is down to you to decide where your event will take place and to ensure the right permissions are sought. Participants are encouraged to use a variety of local places from the standard to the imaginative. Emphasis is on public space, music in the workplace and places of care.
WHO IS BEHIND THE EVENT AND WHEN DID IT START?
Initiated in 2010 by Music Network in association with RTE lyric fm. It is funded by the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht. Music Network is funded by the Arts Council. love:live music recognises the vital support of Ireland’s music education institutes, societies, networks and associations, industry professionals and the media.
WHAT DOES THE LOVE:LIVE MUSIC OFFICE DO?
The role of the love:live music administration office is to stimulate/encourage people to put on their own events and to market the campaign to press. The office can act as a broker to facilitate the meeting of musicians with organisers and venues. love:live music does not have a budget to support events.
WHO IS THE EVENT FOR?
love:love music is a platform for everyone who loves making, listening and participating in live music. Whether you are a professional, aspiring, beginner or retired musician, love:live music encourages you to get involved.
WHO CAN TAKE PART?
Anyone or any organisation can register their free event. We encourage musicians and organisers, schools and students, venues and places of work, festivals and organisations, local authorities and businesses etc. Whether you are a young rock band or a conductor, a samba group or a trad band, love:live music welcomes all music lovers.

HOW CAN I GET INVOLVED?
If you are a musician, singer or promoter; an institute, organisation or company; you are involved in healthcare; have a venue or location to offer, or you wish to volunteer your services, you can either organise your own event register here or find a collaborator by emailing your ‘wanted / offered’ details to info@lovelivemusic.ie
HOW CAN I GET INVOLVED IN MY LOCAL COMMUNITY?
Presented as a ‘county by county’ programme of events; Sligo loves:live music; Cork loves:live music etc, participants are encouraged to network locally, to form partnerships, organising committees and to share resources across venues, equipment and promotion etc. The 21st June is an opportunity for unique, creative and memorable local community events, with emphasis on the outdoors. love:live music provides a unique opportunity to become part of this national and international movement; a non-profit event committed to providing a public platform for all musicians: performances are free to the public. Musicians have an opportunity to reach new audiences, promote forthcoming events, sell merchandise and take pride in their commitment to promoting the importance of music in people’s lives.

WHAT TYPES OF PERFORMANCE VENUES CAN I USE?
In addition to purpose built venues, love:live music aims to inspire visible performance and participation in both rural and urban locations and encourages participants to animate public space through the use non-traditional venues and open-air locations. Examples of venues and locations Please ensure you have permission to perform on the property:
Outdoor: streets, parks, beaches, piers, plazas, fields, squares, courtyards, gardens, bridges, boardwalks
Indoor: music venues, bars, arts centres, cafés, hair salons, supermarkets, stores, museums, heritage buildings
Alternative: train & bus stations, on public transport, in shop-fronts, from windows, bus stops

Attract the attention of passers-by with free live music and help the local music community by providing a performance location. CAN I TAKE PART AS A BUSKER?
Busking is permitted as part of love:live music. However as the event has a free of charge policy, it is essential that buskers do not verbally request or approach audiences for donations. According to Local Authority’s Events Policies, details of Buskers performance times cannot be listed.

HOW WILL MY EVENT BE BRANDED AND PROMOTED?
Visit the Promote Your Event page of this website. This will inform you how to register your event on the love:live music website, how to receive branding material and how to promote your event locally; love:live music will manage the overall marketing campaign.
