Free Music Events in Dublin on 21st June for love:live music

If you happen to be in Dublin on 21st June for love:live music, Ireland's National Music Day, you can choose from the following free, live, music events...

• Lá Ceoil, a free showcase concert in Dublin’s Meeting House Square on Thursday 21st June, 6pm-10pm, funded by the Arts Council supporting Traditional Arts. Lá Ceoil will draw inspiration from Ireland’s indigenous music and will welcome an outstanding line-up of musicians including Buffalo in the Castle, We Banjo 3, The Unwanted, Tarab, Mick O’Brien, members of the RTÉ Concert Orchestra and DIT Traditional Music Ensemble and special guests along with the world première of an exclusive commission by RTÉ lyric fm composer in residence Linda Buckley.

Elsewhere in Temple Bar, Temple Bar Cultural Trust has thrown open the doors to celebrate love:live music with the following events:

• The Walls – acoustic lunchtime set from 1 pm with Steve and Joe Wall of multi-platinum Irish band The Stunning, performing a special stripped-down acoustic set from the Filmbase Café (open stage) onto Curved Street, Temple Bar. Playing songs from their highly acclaimed recent album ‘Stop the Lights’, this unique performance invites audiences to gather on Curved Street to enjoy an al fresco performance by one of Ireland’s most prolific and celebrated song writing duos.
• Exchange Dublin hosts an innovative show from 6 pm that demonstrates the vanguard of musical and visual experience through interactive audio and visual technologies for performance. This event is curated by Fionnuala Conway and features Mark Linnane, members of SoundSet singers, Rachel Ní Chuinn and Saramai Leech, among others who will give short presentations of the systems they use and will perform with the technologies.
• The Contemporary Music Centre (CMC) in association with Crash Ensemble will inaugurate its first ‘Live at Your Place’ concert at the Traffic Control Unit of Dublin City Council on Wood Quay. Crash Ensemble members, Cliodhna Ryan (violin) and Kate Ellis (cello) present this intimate concert of works by Irish composers, Enda Bates and Benedict Schlepper Connolly to the busy staff of the Traffic Control Unit.  Morning commuters across the city will also get the chance to hear these works through a live broadcast on Live Drive (7am-10am) on 103.2 Dublin City fm. • First Music Contact* and Working Class Records, an Independent Hip Hop label based in Dublin, present a show in Filmbase from 6 – 9 pm featuring Red Square with Hip Hop acts: GI, 'The gnarly production will hook you from the start, brilliantly constructed sonic, stoner-like murk' Irish Times; William Lee, 'One of the sweetest slices of urban soul music to come along in an age' Irish Times; Costello, 'A well-crafted mix of straight-up, soul-tinged, Upfront, No-nonsense, gimmick-free hip hop' Hot Press.
• The Sound Training Centre launch their new charity album 'The Shortest Night' with a free concert at The Button Factory featuring Pugwash, Sircles, Propeller Palms and more from 7 – 11pm
• Rio Carnival Samba with Morro 16, whose live percussive performances of ‘samba batucada’ are infectious, bringing the energy, rhythm and vibe of the Rio Carnival to the streets of Temple Bar @ Temple Bar Square from 8 - 9 pm

Other events taking place throughout  the city include:

• White Collar Boy, a two-piece ambient electronic act from Dublin, will play a full live set on the 11.10 am train service between Dublin Heuston and Waterford. Citing Brian Eno’s ‘Music For Airports’ as a big influence, they will transform a carriage into an impromptu stage bringing music directly to people while they go about their daily lives. This event is kindly supported by Iarnród Éireann.
• Whelans launch the first night of their Summer Camp Festival (21-24th June) with a free gig by Choice Music Prize nominee Cashier No. 9. from 8pm. Other acts to be announced.
• Irish band Caruso, “A diligent line between Bowie-tinged 1970s pop and REM style college rock…” play a live set at the Cave Wine Bar at K C Peaches from 8pm.  
• As part of their ongoing residency at Pygmalion, South William Street, White Collar Boy present electronic duo Last Days of 1984 in for a live set from 9pm. Last Days Of 1984 are Brian Rice and Darren Moloney. Influenced by surf, afro-beat, 90’s dance music and tropical electronica, they ‘make music to make people dance’.
• Jazz Central presents Phisqa , an Afro- Peruvian jazz ensemble that encapsulate all the joy and vibrancy of Peruvian rhythms, from 7 – 9 pm in the Central Hotel
