Lá Ceoil Free Music Event Announced for love:live music Celebrations on 21st June, International Music Day

Music Network in association with RTÉ lyric fm presents Lá Ceoil, a free live music event as part of the national love:live music celebrations on  Thursday 21st June 2012 (International Music Day). Lá Ceoil will see performances from Buffalo in the Castle, We Banjo 3, The Unwanted, Tarab, Mick O’Brien, members of the RTÉ Concert Orchestra and DIT Traditional Music Ensemble, and special guest Seán Mac Erlaine along with the world première of an exclusive commission by RTÉ lyric fm composer in residence Linda Buckley.  Lá Ceoil is kindly supported by Arts Council’s Traditional Arts Funding.

Lá Ceoil is a free showcase concert in Dublin’s Meeting House Square on Thursday 21st June, 6pm-10pm drawing inspiration from Ireland’s indigenous music and with an outstanding line-up of musicians from Ireland and around the world. Journeying through Old-Time American folk, orchestral scores, contemporary compositions, electronic interpretations and new world fusions, Lá Ceoil showcases encounters with other musical disciplines and demonstrates how traditional Irish music has cultivated new genres and continues to experiment with new musical synergies. RTÉ lyric fm composer in residence Linda Buckley describes her commission for the concert as “' a meeting of sound worlds, reflecting the diverse cross-genre influences within my own work, from Irish traditional to contemporary classical and electronic”.

“Ireland is known throughout the world for its incredible musicians and unrivalled musical talent and Lá Ceoil is an exciting showcase of this.  This event brings together some of the most unique and exciting artists in Ireland in what promises to be a true celebration of the musical wealth in this country and a really special night for the audience. Lá Ceoil is one of the headline events of love:live music 2012, a national celebration of Irish music taking place on International Music Day – 21st June. For those that can’t make it, Lá Ceoil will be broadcast by RTÉ lyric fm (98.7) and available for streaming from http://www.rte.ie/lyricfm” commented Event Project Manager Jody Ackland.
