Love:live music blog – last post 2011

July 13, 2011

The excitement of love:live music 2011 is starting to fade and preparations are underway for 2012 already!

A huge thank you to all the enthusiastic participants who put on an event in their locality this year. There were over 160 events from across 24 counties; a vast development on the 2010 event! There was a very imaginative take on events this year also including a singathon in Portlaoise; a national school dressed in “musical clothes” in Limerick; musicians appearing in workplaces across the country; and barbershop quartets exercising their vocal chords in Sligo! Check out the full list of participants on the 2011 Archive.

We hope to see many more organisations and individuals involved in love:live music 2012. Take out your diary and put a large circle around Friday 20th April 2012 and watch this space!

It’s Not Too Late to Get Involved!!!!

April 5, 2011

With only a few days to go until love:live music this Friday 8th April, we are making the final push to try and get nationwide participation. We have been overwhelmed by the response to love:live music to date and so far we have over 125 events planned in 19 counties!! We are so close to having the whole country involved on the day and we are asking people in the under-represented counties to get involved and put their county on the love:live music map! We’re a mere six counties away from having a truly national music day that everyone can get involved in so please, if you think you can help spread the music even further do get in touch with us.

So far there are events taking place in the following counties: Cavan, Clare, Cork, Donegal, Dublin, Galway, Kerry, Kildare, Laois, Limerick, Louth, Meath, Offaly, Sligo, Tipperary, Waterford, Westmeath, Wexford and Wicklow but we are particularly keen to see some events registered forCarlow, Kilkenny, Leitrim, Longford, Mayo, Monaghan andRoscommon!

If you think you can put together an event in one of the under-represented counties, please don’t hesitate to contact us at Music Network with your ideas. It doesn’t have to be a major event - we are interested in any kind of live music, be it a session, a sing-along in your workplace, a school concert or a busking session, we value all aspects of live music.

It’s not too late to register; we’re taking event registrations right up until the day!

Latest love:live music events

April 5, 2011

With only three days to go, the final countdown is on for love:live music 2011 on Friday 8th April. We’ve had an amazing response to this year’s campaign and we now have over 125 events countrywide lined up for the day. To be a part of this year’s celebration make sure you get down to one, or several, of the events happening in your area. Check out the whats on section of the website to see what we’ve got lined up. We have an incredible range of events this year; whether it’s classical, jazz, traditional or rock that you’re in to, we have something for everyone.

Here’s a rundown of some of the latest events:

The new Cork Music Education Partnership is hosting a series of events in local libraries in Cork City. Libraries taking part include: The Central Library, Ballyphehane Library, Mayfield Library, Knocknaheeny Library, Blackpool Library and Bishopstown Library. Among the performers will be Cillian McSweeney, a Cork-based musician who has cerebral palsy, who will be demonstrating the ground-breaking new technology he uses to compose and perform his own music at the Central Library in Grand Parade at 10.15am.

Coole Music will be celebrating love:live music with the Gort Community in Galway. They hope to have over 100 performers from local primary and secondary schools join in the performance. It will take place at St. Colman’s Church in Gort at 2pm.

In Crumlin, Dublin the RTÉ Concert Orchestra will be joining forces with St Agnes’ Primary School for a concert at 1pm. The RTÉ Concert Orchestra and the St. Agnes’ School Orchestra will perform separately and then join together for a special collaboration.

Also in Dublin, the National Chamber Choir will be conducting a sing-along at The Helix in DCU led by National Chamber Choir tenor Alan Leech at 11am on Friday.

The RTÉ Vanbrugh Quartet will be holding a concert in St. Brendan’s Church in Bantry, Cork at 6pm.

Radio Na Gaeltachta are hosting an evening of trad and folk music at The Forge in Moycullen, Galway, kicking off at 7pm. There is a whole host of performers lined up with Bríd Ní Chualáin presenting.

The Great Pink Gig in Clare will be a choral extravaganza, where six of the best choirs in the Mid-West will perform along with a special guest spot from Meteor Award winning star Juliet Turner. This is a fund-raising gig in aid of the Pink Ribbon Charity and begins at 8pm.

Round About Midnight, featuring Michael Holohan and friends at the Droichead Arts Centre in Drogheda, Louth will be a night of ‘classcal, folk, blues and beyond’. As the name suggests it will be one of the day’s latest gigs and will go on into the early hours.

This is only a brief sample of what’s on offer, so please go to the whats on section of the website for many more great events that you can check out on the day.
